Prairie Conservation

Manitoba's native prairies are among the most threatened ecosystems in North America. Less than 1% of original tallgrass prairie remains. Our Prairie Conservation Program works to protect, restore, and manage these vital grasslands that support hundreds of plant and animal species.

Our Work Includes:

• Acquisition and protection of native prairie remnants
• Restoration of degraded grasslands through native seeding
• Grazing management partnerships with ranchers
• Research on prairie ecology and species populations
• Education and outreach to raise awareness of prairie values

Through these efforts, we aim to ensure that Manitoba's prairie heritage continues to support biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and sustainable land use for generations to come.
